Dish Network and HDMI Splitter?

I have the Dish Network VIP211 single tuner receiver and I want to run two HDTV from the HDMI. I bought two HDMI splitters and they both don't work correctly. My question is, should this be possible and the splitters I got are just junk. Or is there something about Dish Network that "won't allow" a splitter like this? Yes, I realize there are other ways to connect, but I would like HDMI on both TV's (both different brands and size), with the same program.
