I dream about something before it happens..?

On many occasions I've had a dreams several days, months and years before my dream actually happened. (I keep a dream diary :P so im positive Im not just THINKING I dreamt that) But many times i dream about going somewhere and something happening and it alls happens EXACTLY even down to the peoples clothing. The only thing I can't see is their faces, and myself.. What is happening and going on?
