Why did God want the djinn to bow before Adam?

From what I understand Allaw SWT wanted the inhabitants of heaven (Angels + Iblis to bow). Allah's new creation was one who had free will unlike the angels and was given much less power than the Jinn such as iblis. But it was this simplicity that made Adam special. The children of Adam have never seen Allah and can choose to stray from his path. Even though they have this free will, many submit themselves to Allah, pray to him, seek his forgiveness, and fear him. Jinn have much more power, and yet some of them still do not thank Allah for their blessing (they can shapeshift, they can see us but we can't see them). Furthermore, it was Allah's will that Iblis bow, and maybe this was a test for Iblis to see just how much he would obey Allah. I hope that helps answer your question.
